022/2013 – The “avenue” of pottery shards

The filling of Late Neolithic ditch 8 was made by the depositions of a sequence of layers of fragments of pottery and faunal remains. This is an image of the top one.
O enchimento do fosso 8 do Neolítico Final foi feito através da deposição de níveis de cerâmica fragmentada e restos faunísticos. Esta é uma imagem do nível de topo.

 

 

One interesting thing is that, in a highly fragmented pattern, rims and fragment walls are in similar percentages. That is not a natural pattern, since we should expect much more wall parts. It is human deliberate intervention that builds that pattern. Something to add to the practice of horizontal depositions along the ditch.

Uma situação interessante é a de, perante um padrão de grande fragmentação, os bordos e os bojos surgirem em percentagens semelhantes. Este não é um padrão natural, pois se assim fosse deveriam aparecer muitos mais bojos. É um padrão que resulta de uma acção deliberada humana de escolha. Algo a acrescentar à prática de deposição horizontal alongada no fosso.
